The Importance of Birthday Greeting Cards

Posted on
Birthday Greeting Cards are Greeting Cards that you send or give to someone who may be celebrating their birthday. It is similar to a birthday cake. We all know everyone loves to receive a card, either by hand or by post. However, in the ever-evolving world that we live in, cards used to be a lot more popular than they are now due to the widespread introduction of the internet, mobile phones, and social media. This has led to the use of electronic birthdays cards or even posting a happy birthday message to a friend over Facebook. The appeal for greeting cards still exists for a lot of people. A card is known to be the most effective way of showing someone you care. Greeting cards are a staple in today’s culture and it is important to show people you care by sending an actual physical message that they can keep around as long as they need or want.

Read on to find out more about the importance of Birthday Greeting Cards

It has been scientifically proven and quoted by Dr. Lynda Shaw Neuroscientist “sending a card to someone can create a sense of well-being for the receiver”. The psychology of greeting cards has to do with self-worth and self-esteem. If you spend the time to write a card and send it to someone the recipient knows then you have given them some thought.

Greeting Cards can express Emotions

Sending a birthday greeting card can help you to express all the emotions with sympathy, joy, love, humour, thanks, and admiration. Any of your friends and family who have touched your life in any way a card can connect with them in an emotional way.

To let someone know you are thinking of them

A family member or friend maybe be feeling lonely and a card may add some pleasantness and happiness into their life.

Keeps Business Relationships on a good level

Sending a card to an employee gives you a great opportunity to show them that you appreciate the work that they do for you and your business. It will also lift your employee’s morale just knowing that you cared enough to remember them.

The History of Birthday Cards

The history of Birthday cards is said to have originated in England and is over 100 years old. Unfortunately, the evidence isn’t there to say who received or sent the first card. In those times, Birthday Cards were seen more like an apology. Back then people personally greeting a family member or friend in person on their birthday rather than sending a card but if they were not able to give it to them in person then they would send them a birthday card instead. The significance of a card was to send goodwill and hope to the person receiving the card. In recent times, people now send birthday cards to express their feelings to someone special.

Greeting Cards History

The greeting card history can be traced all the way back to Ancient Chinese. Chinese are known to have started sending the goodwill messages on a New Year as a tradition. The early Egyptians are also known to make used papyrus scrolls to send greetings to their family and loved ones. During the early 1400s, paper greeting cards that were handmade had developed in Europe. Germans at the time also printed New Year greetings on woodcuts.
There are so many different cards to choose from as well as the traditional cards, there are modern cards, funny, floral cards, and many more. China is now becoming one of the largest manufacturers of Greeting Cards. Greeting Cards can bring a lot of joy to many people’s lives. It is a great way of communicating your wishes to a loved one. Little did the inventor of the birthday greeting card know after all those years ago just how popular and everlasting the trend of birthday cards have become.

Choosing the Perfect Greeting or Birthday Card

Posted on
Sometimes we all leave it until the very last minute to pick up the perfect card on our way to a birthday party or family celebration and in our hurry we pick up a sympathy card instead of a congratulations!
So what is the best way to do it? Here are our top tips to really make someone smile when they open up your card…
1. Try to take your time!
Instead of rushing and grabbing the first card you see, try and carve out a little time, even just 5 minutes and think about the person that you are buying for. What do they like? Are they a traditional Granny or a trendy teenager? Pick a card that you think THEY will like – not just the first one to fall into your hands!

2. Let the card do the talking…
If you aren’t comfortable pouring your heart out and writing a long personal message – let the card do the hard work for you! Pick a card that really says what you want to say – we take a long time to write the perfect message and verses for you!

3. Sparkle and shine
Pick a card that will really jump off the mantle piece and take pride of place! We have lots of glittery, shiny, 3D and colourful designs that will make your choice really stand out from the crowd.

4. Save time and buy in bulk
Be super organised for the year ahead and buy your cards for all of the birthdays, weddings and celebrations that you have coming up throughout the year. You’ll save time and money by buying with time on your side. Get a head start by visiting our online shop and having a browse…

5. Be thoughtful
There really is nothing nicer than getting a card in the post, it’s like getting a big hug in an envelope! Don’t wait around for a birthday to pop a card in the post – make a habit of sending a little hello to your loved ones to show that you care! We have lots of cards that are for no particular celebration – a blank canvas for your thoughts and wishes!

Valentines card and choclates

So you’ve got the Valentine’s card and box of chocs – sorted right?! (If you haven’t don’t worry – you still have time, our cards are available to buy in SuperValu, Centra, Spar stores and more nationwide right up until Valentine’s Day!)

Yes but if you want to make Valentine’s Day super extra special this year why not try these tips to woo your sweetheart and earn lots of…. ahem, brownie points!

1. Start early, get up just that little bit before the alarm clock starts shouting at you and make breakfast, this doesn’t mean that you have to make a huge fry up, even a bowl of cereal prepared by someone else is a treat!

2. Valentine’s day doesn’t have to cost a fortune, once you’ve got your card and a small gift, you can do the rest yourself. You could start by leaving little love notes around the house or in the car. Post it’s are perfect for this!

3. Seeing as Valentine’s day is on a Sunday this year, you could have a lovely relaxing day with your loved one. Plan something that they love to do, it could be a walk on the beach, a lazy pj day with lots of movies to watch and goodies to nibble, spend some quality time just the two of you!

4. Sometimes if life is a bit hectic we can forget to connect with our nearest and dearest one to one, in the hustle and bustle of life, hugs and kisses can be the last thing on your mind but they are so important, and it’s been proven that are are good for your health! So take as many opportunities to give a little cuddle here and there and keep it going all year long!

5. If you still have any energy left after all of that, you could plan a nice dinner & dessert, again keep it simple and stress free, you should be enjoying yourself too! Maybe it’s take-away and a tub of ice-cream or a home cooked feast, either way you’ll be in the good books!

Job done! Happy Valentine’s Day xxx

PS: If you happen to find yourself in solitary splendour on Valentine’s Day – do all the above for yourself!

An easy New Year’s Resolution to keep

Posted on

2016 is well underway, and many of you will have made your New Year’s Resolutions already. Maybe you have even fallen off the wagon and broken them, and are trying to hop back on and give them another go…

The problem with New Year’s Resolutions is that we make way too many of them and they can be really difficult to achieve.

“I’m going to eat really healthily and exercise for an hour EVERY day without fail.”

“I’m going to lose ten stone.”

“I’m never going to drink, eat chocolate, or anything fatty EVER again!”

“I’m going to be a much better person.”

These are all great goals but they are a little too extreme and difficult to stick to.

This year why not try making one small change? Just reach out and connect more with the world.

Say hello to your Neighbour in the morning on your way to work. Thank the bus driver before hopping off. Make chit chat with a stranger and most importantly keep in touch with your nearest and dearest.

Don’t just rely on technology, really make an effort and put pen to paper. Tell them how much they mean to you and send a card just to say hello. Smiles are contagious and we can all make the world just that little bit happier, one hello at a time.

Whatever your resolutions we wish you good luck and hope that 2016 is a great year!
